I share a bedroom with my daughter, and as I was sleeping, I heard someone calling my name repeatedly—”Mum, mum, mummy, mum.” Half-asleep, I finally woke up, and she softly said, “Mama, pray for me.”
I have my bed, and she has hers, so in my drowsy state, I wondered why she was asking for prayer in the middle of the night. But without hesitation, I started praying loudly for her. I even thought it might be time to wake up for school, so I prayed for God’s protection over her as she went to school and came back. I also prayed for God to bless her with godly friends—friends who are after the heart of Jesus. After we said “Amen,” she was quiet for a while, and then she told me why she had asked me to pray for her. She had a bad dream.
I asked her what the dream was about, and she told me she had dreamt of a mad man, and it had scared her. After sharing that with me, she climbed into my bed, and not long after, she was sound asleep. This moment reminded me of the words of Jesus:
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.” (Matthew 23:37)
Chicks feel safe under the covering of their mother. No matter how frightened or restless they may be, the moment they are gathered under her wings, they know they are protected. That’s the same kind of safety and peace we are meant to experience under the covering of our Heavenly Father.
Grace was scared of the image she saw in her dream. It robbed her of her peace. But the moment she jumped into my bed, she felt safe. Soon, she was snoring, deep in restful sleep, simply because she knew she was secure next to her mother. It’s the same way with our Creator. He knows the nightmares we have—the fears that grip our hearts, the anxieties that keep us awake at night, the problems that seem overwhelming. And yet, He invites us to come to Him, to rest under His covering, to completely surrender and trust Him like a child.
Jesus said that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these—children who trust completely, without hesitation. Let us learn to do the same. Let us find our peace, our comfort, and our rest in Him. Let us not desire anything else but to be hidden in the arms of Jesus. Because I speak from personal experience—there is no safer place than in Christ. When you are hidden in Jesus, the enemy cannot reach you. He cannot torment you. I once came across a quote that said a man or woman should hide themselves so deeply in Christ that even the person who desires them must seek Christ first to find them. That resonated with me deeply.
For me, nothing in this life matters more than my relationship with my Savior. Not riches. Not provision. Not success. Not fame. Not luxury. Nothing.
Yesterday, I was working on a personal assessment for school, and part of it required reflecting on my upbringing. I wrote about my relationship with my grandmother and how deeply spiritual she was. After my mum died, I spent a long time with her, and her heart was after one thing—Jesus Christ. She lived a fulfilling, joyful life and experienced good success, but she never chased success. She sought Jesus, and in Him, she found everything she ever needed.
No matter what fears keep you up at night, no matter what anxieties weigh on your heart, there is peace in Jesus. Just like Grace found comfort in my bed, knowing she was safe with me, we too can find true rest in the arms of our Savior. The world may be overwhelming, and life’s burdens may feel too heavy to carry, but when we take refuge in Him, we find the strength, the comfort, and the assurance we need.
Jesus is our safe place. He is our shelter in the storm, our covering in the wilderness, and our peace in the chaos. If you feel restless, afraid, or burdened, run to Him. Surrender everything at His feet. Let His presence calm your heart and remind you that you are never alone. In Christ, you are covered, protected, and deeply loved.
There is no safer place than in Jesus. Nothing else in this life compares to knowing Him and being hidden in Him. Seek Him first, and everything else will fall into place.
Have a beautiful day. 🖤
